Thursday: Ken's 50th Birthday Celebration Dinner

After a break in the action, we went back to our hotel
and chilled out for a bit, then got freshened up for the main event: the big dinner!

To celebrate Ken's 50th birthday, the centerpieces were comprised of
the "Happy Birthday Ken" Barbie and a MAH-velous gift box. Oh, how I wanted that gift box...

Our gift from Mattel that evening was a ceramic gift box in authentic Ken blue.

The food at Convention was nothing to write home about, but the desserts were not bad!
And THEN came the show. I didn't take pics of it
because we were too far from the stage for them to turn out.
Basically performers dressed up as Barbies and Kens from various decades
and sang and danced and made us all laugh our heads off. It was a fantastic show!

Mattel surprised us with a SECOND gift that night--
a Barbie & Ken giftset in the vintage style.
This set was created specially for the Convention--you can't get it anywhere else.
This was the first time that a gift set had been given at a Convention.
Usually the "official" Convention doll is given on the last night,
so we were pretty sure (and pretty stoked)
that we were going to receive ANOTHER exclusive doll in addition to this one!

Vintage isn't really my style (or Diane's) so we put ours up on eBay for $175.
They sold within 10 minutes! It helped recoup some of the costs
we had incurred after visiting the Sales Room earlier that day!
After the dinner, we did some more celebrity stalking.
Finally caught up with Bill Greening, another favorite designer.

Here are all the performers from the show in their authentic ensembles.
Are you seeing Crystal Barbie & Ken?
I just realized how hideous the carpeting is.
And yeah, there we are stalking Robert again.
Our haul of freebies from the dinner!
